Are all dual alternator pully's underdrive?

I'm looking for a dual alt pully, but all the ones I find (RB, mazdatrix etc) all say they underdrive the alt. I just want a stock sized pully but dual, is there such a thing?

Never seen a stock duel. What is objectionable about the underdrive ? Just curious since I have the underdrive and thought it was a good thing.

Only reason I would be hesitant to put an underdrive pulley on my alternator is because even with the motor humming away at a prety good pace, when I really turn up my stereo (400 watt RMS amp running 2 15" subs) its a duel between my amp and alternator. If the headlights are on they will dim when the bass really pounds, and my stereo isnt much compared to what some people are running out there. I think I would run into problems, maybe if I upgraded to an FC alternator Id run an underdrive pulley system, but with the stock alternator and a stereo, not a good idea.

If it is a Bling Bling Stero you are woried about just install a Capasitor to store power for the Sterio it takes alot of the load off the Alt, and usually solves the headlight diming problem.

You probably shouldn't run an underdrive pulley on a street driven car.

my car has enough trouble making power with the system going, lights on, efan going etc, I don't want underdrive, its for my project car which will also have fog lights. Its gonna be an agressive street car, but a street car nonetheless. Anyway, after searching the FC forum a bit, I found one that looks good, nice price too: http://www.rotaryinnovation.com/

Just find an old dodge caravan with the mitsubishi motor in it(I think 2.2 or 2.3) well its a 4 banger. They have dual alt pulley and they work just fine and you don't have to dish out 40 or 50 bucks for racing beat one.

Cool

I bought my stock ratio dual alt pulley from Mantis (don't remember the web address though) for about $20.00. I concur with Jeff20B that you don't want an underdrive pully on a street driven car.

Stock diameter! damn good price too, exactly what i was looking for.

when i was tired of low voltage, i tore into the electrics and replaced every inch of the + alt output wire (white with red stripe) from alt to fuse box to battery with 8 gauge.

yeah, i might get that and run it with the rb dual belt main pulley. i want the slight underdrive for upper rpms, but not the loss in voltage of both pullies being underdriven.

So keep your underdrive pulley for no cavitation of the waterpump. That's why they are such a common and recommended mod. Spend the money ( not much ) on the alternator upgrade so you have no problems with stereo amps, efan, whatever. Why go all the way around the world for something that's right there ? Mods should either correct problems or improve something.

Again, the underdrive is for the waterpump, the alternator is for the juice to run your electrical system. Both are good mods.

That pulley looks like the one I have, $20 btw., I don't recall where I orderd it from, but its a heavy peice of steel. The RB is aluminum.

Is the one off the van you guys are talking about a solid hunk of steel thats been machined, or like 4 cups with a couple spacers?

how much difference can a few grams really make? I mean the thing isn't that big, not like the weight would make that much difference, could it?

Well I've got an underdrive pulley from Rotoryperformance and it does nake a noticable difference in power and in alt operation.

I was looking at the ones mazdatrix has and though it says these are under drive pulleys, they reccomend using the alt. pulley if you have removed your air pump.
If the main pulley is underdrive, the others would not have to be.
I'm thinking the alt. is not underdrive.

82transam, I know it's not a lot of weight, but its more than a few grams, I just don't like replacing parts with heavier ones.

I bought one from that site posted earlier, but I bought it through the forum. The guy that runs that site is here on the forum, but the SN escapes me at the moment. Manntis started selling them for him through his site, and used the pic of my car on his website at www.rotorhead.ca I believe he still sells them on his site BTW.

I've seen other sites list both fb and fc together on the same pully, so it probably will work. I'm putting a 80 amp s5 alt in my car, so it will work with mine. And I agree, adding heavier parts isn't my style either, but in this case it should be fine.
