All done
This is the final wrap-up thread for my winter project. Since January I have done the following...
Removed:
Rat's nest
shutter valve
sub-zero start assist
hot start assist
cruise control (motor and controller)
anti-afterburn valve
fuel pump shield
This all adds up to 10 pounds of unneccesary weight.
(thats with little/no fluid in the sub-sero start assist. If you have fluid it'll obviously weigh more)
Installed:
Carter fuel pump
Holley 1-4psi FPR and fittings
new 3/8" fuel hoses and clamps
RB Power Pulse intake w/ foam filter
(weighs just 1.5 pounds compared to stock 6.5)
New gasket and O-rings on intake
vacuum lines and caps for rat's removal
Cost: $227
Sterling carb from Carl
Cost: $400
Total Cost: $627
Now on the weight issue, the Carter pump and Holley regulator do weigh more than the stock pump, but I figure the weight added there has to be about the same as the weight of all the crap Carl took off the carb.
So all in all it shed 15 pounds, and gained all sorts of power (no number yet, but damn does it feel fast even untuned). The difference in driving it is amazing. This car REALLY responds now, especially with the mechanical secondaries. Didn't take any time at all to get used to them.
Not to mention it starts right up and runs better than before. Only problem is a slightly high idle (~1200rpm) but thats not a big deal. I'm sure its just a minor thing.
This is my first big project on a car (I'm 17 and from a mechanically-challenged family). What do you think?
