Aircare questions - cats

Soooo, I'm good until next year, but, when that horrible time does come around, do you think I could pop off the connecting pipe and muffler and just run a string of cats (junkyard) off the headers or would the exhaust gasses be too cold by that point already? What about putting a bigger wheel on the airpump to go gung-hoe with clean air ?

The car also passed pretty smoothly, but, I'm presuming this had a stock exhaust system bolted on or some other magic as it's just rb-headers to a pipe to a muffler now.
