air pump, rats nest runnability ??

Got a 83, didn't run very good so I decided to mess everything up by removing everything. Took off the rats nest, put a yaw racing modded carb on. Now it really runs bad. I'm thinking maybe I've got vaccum leaks, I didn't plug any of the air pump hoses (the pump is still installed, just some hoses on the back side of the intake).
I can only get it started bay adding some gas down the carb (or pumping the heck outta it) then feathering the gas once it fires to keep it above 4k or so. If I let it drop it dies. So I was wondering if anyone could gimmie a little advice on these lines?

Thanks!

did you plug the vacuum lines fittings below the carb when you removed the rat's nest and you probably will have to fiddle with the mixture and idle screws on the carb.

Does it stumble and struggle to run? or just strait out die if you don't keep it above 4 grand?

do the hoses on the back of the intake manifold lead to anything or do you just have them floating around in the open air?

Vacuum lines all plugged, engine dies if you don't stay on the gas, and the lines aren't going to anything.
I know one of them came off the cat, they were disconnected and e verything messed up when I got the car. I'm gonna try to find something to plug them with today. Just need to get this thing running so i can move it, it'll be snowing here soon.
