air pump and fan

i was reading about the air pump and pulley fan but they were talking about buying a lawnmower belt to run the water pump...so on a 1980 sa the same pulley as the fan and air pump is the same that "pumps" the water pump?

the eccentric shaft drives the water pump and fan via the same belt. the air pump is belt driven off of the e-shaft but is not driven off of the water pump belt as well.

stick with the oem belts. do not buy a lawnmower belt for your car.

Referring to belt alternatives AFTER the air pump/emissions are removed, since obviously the stock belt would then be too long - some folks found certain lawn-mower belts were the right length. Happily the good folks at Pineapple racing (.com) came out with a proper belt for this:

Daniel,

I would stay away from removing the air pump for now. Since you have a stock exhaust system, the air pump is needed to cool the outer shell of the thermal reactor. If you remove the air pump, it can overheat and the internals can collapse and block the exhaust. Wait until you get an aftermarket exhaust before removing the air pump.

Besides..removing the air pump will make no noticeable difference in power. It will save a few pounds and make things a little cleaner, but that is about it. Also, when you remove the air pump, belt slippage is more of a problem as the only remaining belt has ony a small contact area with the water pump.

Anyway, we can talk about it more when I come by on Tuesday.
