air intake duct as per Mazda Comp. Prep Manaul

i downloaded the Mazda competition preparation manual and was looking through it. Something that caught my attention immediately was the "scoop" like item that ducted air from the front grille to the carb. Has anyone actually done this? Curious if it would be worth my time.

ReSpeed sells a radiator side panel that allows for adding a cold air intake to the stock air cleaner. If you remove the flapper in the snorkle of the stock air cleaner, and plug all the unneeded holes, it actually flows pretty well.

the plans for building one don't seem to difficult. i may be giving it a go. Only issue i will have is that i have a side draft manifold.

the manuals looks different, most notably the more "direct" path because they also modify or fabricate the side radiator panels.

that might work better, you can use the shock tower as one side of your box....

theres a couple issues with the comp setup.

1. it moves the radiator way over to the left, this means for sure getting rid of the battery tray (rules?), oil cooler line fit gets custom (not a problem, its just different).

2. the plans look simple, but they arent labeled in every dimension, so that means a mock up. actually making the things nice will take a sheet metal brake, or talent.

3. mazda literally built an air box with filter on the side of the rad for their car, find pics of the green and white imsa car, its got that setup.

after looking at everyhing and mocking it all up, imma do my own thing, kind of in between the simple respeed setup and mazda's

try it out, its like 10 bolts to take all that stuff out, if its not already
