Air flow meter
I have an 84 se and it seems to surge between 500 and 1500 rpm. I have been having trouble with keeping a smooth idle and am frustrated. I was tinkering with it again yesterday when i realized that if i open the air-flow meter while idleing the surgeing seems to stop. I have been reading about different idleing problems and have been trying to figure out which sensor does what. The page said that more air was probably getting in and confusing the tps.
Should i remove the intake hose to clean out the throttle body or what should I do.

Br0.. thats the T/P sensor.. It revs up.. then down.. then up then down.
The Throttle Position Sensor needs to be adjusted.
There is a screw - covered with a plastic cap.. which is usally not there anymore.
There is a special tool used to do this.. but you can "wing it" by standing on the passanger side of the engine compartment.. and located the throttle cable. On the other side of the throttle cable .. twords the front of the card.. in front plenum. you'll see the throttle position screw.. The turn a 1/2 turn counter clockwise and listen.. if the surging stops.. your good to go.. if it doesen't..try another 1/2 turn cunter clock wise. No it could be off out to about 3 complete turns.. Just remember how many turns you make. Do the same.. Clockwise.. if it doesen't stop. Good luck.. :]

Thanks alot man, I really appreciate it. I'll try and mess with the screw untill it works and post what happens.
By the way, you have a really clean engine bay. Is it a new engine or did you clean it up. I can only dream of mine looking like that.

don't mess with the TPS unless you know how to set it with the two light testing method (in the haynes manual). The reason it is surging is most likely due to a vacuum leak somewhere. Do I search (upper right hand corner) for idle problems or seach for the GSL-SE idle problems right up by David Lane.
