Air Filter replaceing. almost disastrous, learn from it!

Well, I finally took a look at my '84 SE's air filter, it had an install date written in Sharpie on it of 10/05/93!!! So I decided to replace it with a K&N replacement cartridge. I then noticed my air box above and below my filthy old element was rusted! So I shoved some polyester lint free wipes into the hole at the bottom in front of the "trap door" thing so no rust and crud would fall in there while I removed the air box to derust it before installing new filter...Long story short, when everything was re-assembled the next day(hastily, I was late for work) I forgot to remove the wadding of wipes from in there. I started driving the car, gently(it was still cold) and then started to get on it when I noticed HORRIBLE fluctuating idle and no response, and it ran like crap...Then it hit me what had happened...I limped it back home and took off the intake at the top chamber and found the wipes wrapped all around the "butterflies?" and halfway sucked the whole way through. I think I got them all out, and now it runs really really good! So learn from my stupidity and don't repeat. By the way, do you think I could have hurt anything or bent the things it was wrapped around at all?
