weird- i just took apart and cleaned up an old distributor off a parts car engine, and finally learned what an ignitor actually is, and a thread appears about them.
btw, how do you tell if they're good or not?

OReilly has Borg Warner modules for $170 with a lifetime warranty. Auto Zone has other units for about $20 cheaper but w/o the lifetime warranty. I have aquired a handful of used units over the years with varied success. I would have to say I would try to find some used units at a good price or from someone that you feel will not shaft you if you get a bad module.

i have the j-109's. i was thinking about about a whole new dizzy. when i was checking spark it seemed kind of weak and i looked at the ponts and they are a little corroded inside the cap. i started to try to remove the corrosion with a fine grain sand paper and the metal just started to chip off. i think it's time for a replacement. however the trailing were firing and the leading were not. i was swaping things around a bit to test the ignitors and the coils and found that one ignitor was not working. i will look on ebay and also call aroung for a dizzy. i'll keep posting and hopefully i can fix this by tomorrow.
haven't driven it in like two weeks because i was swaping suspension parts............all i want is a little drive sometime this weekend, is that too much to hope for?
thanks for all your help, keep it coming.

In So Cal you should have no trouble finding J109s at the junkyards. Elsewise, you can usually get them on eBay for $20-$30. I keep spares in the glove compartment of each car.

Make sure to pick up some heat sink compound at Radio Shack. It's what they use to bond a heat sink to a chip. Your ignitors use the distributor as their heatsink, and they'll overheat if they're not bonded.
