With aftermarket guages in the factory location, will the speedo still work.

Heres what I have to install.

Autometer Sport-Comp
3 3/8 8000 Rpm tach

2 1/16 Mechanical Oil Pressure and Water temp

2 5/8 30psi/30 hg mechanical boost and a fuel Pressure

I want to put the tach, oil pressure and water temperature guages in the factory location. But Will the factory speedometer work? aftermarket speedos are exspensive.

its a 83 gsl 140mph guage cluster.

also, If im not useing the factory electric guages, what else can I get rid under the dash.

I am running a haltech, the only things still connected to the main harness connector from the engine are the alternator wires and the engine oil level sensor and something else on the pan.

I have this huge connector on the harness that onlu 4 wires are comming out, I would like to clean up alot of that unused stuff if I could.

The factory speedo is mechanical, I don't see how adding any aftermarket guages would affect it unless you were to cut one of the conductors for illumination or something like that.

isn't it going to look a bit odd with all new gauges minus the speedo? But either way, post up some picss!! IMO leave the stock tach aswell, but change the others.

i think it will look strange if you dont change them all. You can get autometer speedos, and they are easy to cailibrate.

my original plan was to have the Tach in the center like it is, water temp and oil temp on the left, and boost and oil pressure on the right.

fuel pressure, fuel level, air fuel ratio and speedometer in the center console.

the autometer electric programmable speedos are 200, and I need a FD sender.

if you run an aftermarket speedo and wire in a 2nd gen warning light cluster you can place the gauges anywhere you want

well the 2nd gen warning light cluster is its own unit, easily mountable however you desire. you could then ditch the entire 1st gen gauge pod as long as you dont mind the blinker indicators being gone, or wire some in yourself.
i dont know if its been done or if theres a write up, its just something ive been plannin on eventually (when im not so poor) my problem now is that with the smaller steering wheel i cant see the top of my tach or speedo, which sucks. so when i go after market i can through the fc warning up top and the gauges below so i can see all of the gauges

trying to find pics of the fc warning lights.....

Well, I am in the middle of just such a cluster. I am making a mahogany frame for all autometer gages. I am using mechanical water and oil gages and electronic speedo. The only original wires I am using are the illuminator wire with the dimmer and the vommeter wire. I easily could have used the original speedometer, but I wanted to be able to calibrate it with new tires and stuff. I like accurate speedos.
The whole thing cost about 350 - 160 for the speedo, 75 for the speed sender, 50 for the tach, and 85 for the rest. Oh, on top of that, I spent 40 for the hole saws and 30 for the mahogany (extra peices of wood for screwups).

so the stock FB warning light bar is part of the cluster and cannot work on its own?? seams like it would just be some wires and lights and nothing else.

To be honest I didn't look at it close. I wasn't interested in it. I think you could make it work, but it might be more effort than it's worth. I found it easier to just replace the whole thing.
