aftermarket gauges

I putting in aftermarket gauges and was wondering what you all are running. Especially for temp. How high of a degree and where to install the temp. sender.

Peace

In the picture below, you see the Waterpump assembly. From Factory, it has two sensors that work with the engine, ECU, emissions, and Choke systems.

From what I understand, the stock ones usually go to ****, and it makes very little difference (if any) to remove these stock sensors on any FB with any kinds of mods.

The stock sensor for the engine temp gauge (in the instrument cluster) is on the engine block (under the oil filter).

In this picture, I removed the waterpump, and drilled and tapped the top sensor for the Haltech Coolant sensor. The Lower sensor, I drilled and tapped with 1/8 NPT thread, so it fits the Autometer water temperture gauge. It is an electrical gauge and only uses 1 wire to the gauge.

This is the best place to put the sensor, and you don't have to worry about leaks. It should also give the most correct reading since it is on the engine side of the thermostat.

Good Luck!

I've got my autometer sender (the same as DF) installed in the block where the factory sender was. It screwed straight in with no probs. A little telfon tape and it hasn't leaked yet after about 2 months installed. I didn't care about the stock gauge though, as it won't be in the car long enough to care.

I considered drilling and tapping the water pump housing just as DF has done, but found this easier and just as good.

Now just for fun if you didnt want to drill and tap couldnt you "T" the stock location under the oil filter and put whateve sizes there you want? Or do these senders not a "wet" operation meanging they take a dry reading and dont measure the water temperature itself, but more just the blocks temperature? Does that even make sense? Or would using a T make the gauge less accurate because of less water flow over the sensor?

Very basic, I used the stock cluster, removed the gauges, cut a piece of plexy glass to fit inside with holes cut for the Auto Meter gauges.

I use a Cyberdyne digital from Summit. I think they changed brands since I bought mine. It's tapped into the sensor on the waterpump. I have been using it and a digital voltmeter for about 6 years. No problems and definately no question what they are reading.

i want to do the same thing as rotor vs. piston, but i'd want to keep the stock arrangement of the SA gauges instead. I think the big tach in the middle is badass looking, and i wanna keep that.

i'd like to see if the 5" in dash model would possibly fit into a custom panel like that, with a 3 3/8" 120mph speedo on the right of it, and some smaller gauges on the left side, oil, temp and fuel.

i guess, what is the largest size piece of plexi that i could possibly use in there, and how bad is getting it in there and mounted?
