Aftermarket audio related.. What month was my FB made?!

Hey guys!

I'm on crutchfield.com trying to find a gps deck for my 82 FB.

the options they list are: "Made before june with power antenna, or made after june with power antenna" and "made before june w/o power antenna, or made after w/o"

Im not sure when mine was made.. unfortunately the deck i found that i like (Kenwood KVT-516 w/GPS KNA-G610) will only fit (according to the website) if my car is made after or starting june with a power antenna.

I do have a power antenna! and what looks like an aftermarket tape deck in my fb... i dont feel like spending close to a grand on a deck that im not 100% sure will fit...

any ideas? input? help?

Anything and everything is appreciated!!

Should say on the door jamb. If not, post your VIN and we can figure it out from there.

Yours should be June 82. June had starting serial #652106. July had #700132??

Whether that is before or after June, I don't know?

Nice to see another MN rotary owner post up on a topic I'm looking into as well.

I'm looking at getting a Kenwood deck with two new Kenwood 4" speakers up front, two Kenwood 6 1/2" speakers in back, with 2 10" Kenwood subs with a 1200 watt amp.

However, I wanted to do either a double din with GPS, or a single din pop-up with GPS. I've kind of decided to to a Kenwood single din regular deck due to the age of the car, I don't think that a bigger double din suits the car as well as a brushed-aluminum older single din regular deck does (personal opinion).

I plan on rewiring every speaker with 12ga wire and 4ga to the subs and amp. Crutchfield also won't give you the mounting hardware I believe, I've researched it out. Plan on an extra $25ish on eBay to get the mounting hardware - or do a custom job like I plan to do so I can mount aftermarket gauges for water temp, oil temp, and oil pressure

The before June and after/during June 82 thing seems to be power antenna related. The relay wiring kit that they give you is probably different for the different months - Mazda could have changed their wiring up a bit.

Keep me updated, I'm interested to see how this works out for you! And I agree with the MN thing, it sucks. Car is in storage an hour away from me.

when dealing with crutchfield, I never include car info unless it is for a newer car. Chances are someone hacked up the harness on older cars.

with that said, I got the JVC double din nav system and 4 momo 6.75 components for the seven. had to cut the map holder off the doors and make a better setup and cut holes where the bins would be if I had a FB to fit the rears. then go with a 4 channel amp for them. then a mono amp powering a alpine "r" series 12". then make a tray to fit the amps in the spare tire tray. the 12" is strapped to the roll cage. the whole setup is $2800 on crutchfield but will sound awesome.

SINGLE DIN

DOUBLE DIN

DOUBLE DIN AND A HALF....ISH

^My car^

Haha the FB will need some custom work done to get it to the point where you can mount your stereo in there.

Here are some pics to show you what I mean. I've seen of people's custom FB radio panels with built-in gauges but I can't find any right now.

I will post pics for you of mine when I'm done with it

Here's what I'm doing to put in a single din and three gauges.
Took a broken center console and removed the AC control hole portion and flipped it upside down.
This way I have factory edges around the radio opening. Then I used JB weld and put it all together.
After some paint and a coat of clear, it should look nice.
During assembly, I used the radio insert to ensure the opening was just the right size.

KCREPU that's awesome, I saw you post that picture up somewhere else and I would love to do that if I could. But I might do a custom one myself. Like heater controls, single din, gauges. Someone did that here on the forum with a custom carbon fiber look over it all and it's awesome, I can't remember who it was right now though..

$20 for the same kit on eBay if you click on that link. I have looked into doing that kit as well, and if you look here on Funk73's build thread about 3/4 of the way down he has his single din stereo installed with what looks like the metra kit. I am just starting an install with 3 Autometer gauges mounted on diamond plate with a single din stereo above it. Will post a thread when I'm done and I will post some pics on here for you as well
