AEM Smart Coil Mount Location

AEM Smart Coil Mount Location
As part of my s5 engine swap into my GSLSE I知 adding AEM IGN1A smart coils, four total. Has anyone used these in an FB before and if so where did you mount them?
I知 keeping my power steering and AC. There doesn稚 seem to be room for all 4 on the firewall or fender side, or under the intake like an FD. I see some potential in the area where the distributor currently sits.
One idea that crossed my mind is using an FD oil filler neck to get an offset, then installing all 4 on a bracket directly over the housings and in front of the intake manifold. Close to where they are on an FD but not buried. Thoughts? Anyone mounted these before in a good spot?
The distributor and GSLSE specific vacuum/solenoid parts will be removed

that is a tight fit. all four do not need to go together either, its actually not a bad idea to separate the leading and trailing.

Damn, it did start!
I made this out of some plate steel, aluminum tubing and stainless bolts. Works with a S4 intake.

Thank you for this picture! I was actually thinking about doing something just like this this afternoon. I am keeping the S5 vacuum rack, but with some pieces cut out, so I can't quite mount two over the front housing like you did without hitting the solenoids, but I think I can rig something up in roughly the same place, just a little higher. It looks like that plate steel is bolted into the housings where the vacuum rack would normally bolt in? Did you two a pair of leading and trailing on each side?

The plate is bolted into where the vacuum lines go is correct. The coils mirror the plugs on the engine

Looks like you've found a good solution already, but here's some pictures of how I did it on my FC. Other than painting my brackets, those pictures are the final version. Looking at your picture in post #1, it appears you have a similar amount of space available in the FB between the brake & clutch masters to fit the 4 coils, so you may be able to do something very similar to what I came up with for my FC. It's just some aluminum 1/16" thick sheet stock, AL spacers and long bolts/nuts, and I oriented the coils to match the spark plugs (bottoms are leading, top trailing, front/rear). Re-purposed the OEM mounting studs from the FC's trailing coils to bolt the thing in there.

Maybe someone can help me or point me in the right direction.
- What is the cost on switching to something like this?
- It seems like it makes things less complicated, would this work on my 85 GSL-SE.
- What does it delete from my current setup on my GSL-SE and is it worth making the change. Does it remove the need for the ignitor coils on the distributor?
Thanks in advanced,

Really interested in switching to something like this.

Made a bracket that mounts where the AC used to be. Have plastic spacers (uhmw) to insulate it from the block. Heat soak was a problem before I did that. I copied the idea from someone off the internet. I tried couple other places under the hood but this was the best by far. Plus I wanted the coils close as possible.

I love the idea of putting all 4 coils by the engine there, but since I'm keeping AC and power steering I don't have the room! I did figure out a way to modify the S5 vacuum rack and mount two of them over the front housing. I definitely have room for 1 over the rear housing but I don't yet know about squeezing in two.
All I did was cut out the side of the vacuum rack and add a steel plate bolted through where the solenoids attached. I can then fit 1 coil inside the rack and 1 below, and can still put the VDI and 5/6th port solenoids in the factory location on top (I'm removing the two ACV and fuel pressure solenoids).
