I am almost done with my S5 engine and subframe swap in my GSL-SE and need some advice on how to construct the intake. Right now I cut a spare FC intake pipe in half and spliced the lower GSL-SE pipe into it, which then connects to the air flow meter. The meter is just zip tied in the front corner right now without a filter and it's too high and forward to work with the standard intake.
Short term I am running all GSL-SE stuff on the block, so I need to keep the air flow meter. Longer term I'll swap in the S5 ECM and wiring and this air flow meter won' t be needed. I'd like to find a solution that works for both if possible.
The problem with this setup is that it basically requires 2 90º bends close together to connect the s5 throttle body elbow to the GSL-SE air meter with the filter/box installed. Because of this I'm guessing ditching the stock airbox and getting a cone filter or something might be best? Or any other ideas?
I was hoping to get inspiration from anyone who has done this before, but no luck. I wound up coming up with something myself.
I ordered a 3.5" coupler, a 22º bent elbow, and a 3.5" to 2.75" reducer (which I could only find on ebay) to connect the intake elbow to the AFM. Then I picked up a MAF adapter with a 3" inlet and added a K&N cone filter on the end. Turns out a MAF adapter for a 90-97 (NA) Miata fits. In the future I'll eliminate the AFM and run longer 3.5" pipe down to the cone, and I'll probably need to box in the cone filter to make it as effective as the stock intake box also. Mine is currently supported by a zip tie under the filter but I'll make a bracket soon
The GSLSE BAC bolts right up to the S5 manifold, I just had to extend the wiring harness for the connector since it’s a foot away. I have not yet added a bung in my intake tubing to feed the BAC but I plan to. I’ll probably tap into the aluminum elbow
