hrm.... what about this clear vinyl stuff for the whole car? wouldn't that be like a badass clearcoat that doesn't chip?

My experience with car bras is that they cause rust from trapping moisture. Also, they can make the car run hotter if it is the kind with the clear net that covers the open nose area.

It's a trade-off. Bras can protect the car from rocks, but they look totally ugly.
