advice

Ok, I finally pulled our 82 GSL out of the garage after not being driven for about 6 years.
It' at the painters right now, but before it got there I took it to a tranny shop because it had a vibration .
I thought it might be a motor , or tranny mount, or possibly a u-joint or drive shaft.
I was told, two bad u-joints and a tranny bearing.
My question is " How hard would it be for a novice to do the the reapair?
Thought of redoing the clutch while it's out as well.
Are there special tools , or skills required?
Thanks,
56tri5

Only special tool that may be needed for the clutch replacement is a pilot bearing puller. You will need a clutch alighment tool, but those usually come with the new clutch.

As far as the driveshaft, take it to a driveshaft shop and have it rebuilt with replaceable/greaseable u-joints. Oddly, they are a Dodge part.

If you don't have a copy of the FSM, you can download it from the link in my sig line. Also be sure to read through the thread link in the FAQs on bringing you 7 back to life. Since your's has sat for so long, youwill have much todo, particularly cleaning the entire fuel system and mostlikely a carb rebuild.

I'm kinda doubting the diagnosis on the tranny bearing. I'd get the ujoints done, then see how it feels. If the tranny really does have an issue, it might be easier/cheaper to swap in a replacement. Also, a can of Seafoam through the tank might improve how she runs and clean her up some. Welcome to the forum...

If the input bearing is bad, that's not hard to change. I do agree with Kentetsu, take care of the driveshaft 1st and see if it improves and the noise/vibration goes away. If the pilot bearing has gone awol for an extended length of time, it will stress the input bearing and accellerate it's demise.

Im with Kentetsu do the U joints and then see what happens, they are easy enough to do yourself.
But i will disagree, dont use seafom. Seafoam has corrosicve additives and if you dont burn hot enough it will get you seals and weaken them.
