Adjusting the idle on stock Nikki carb
I've searched around the forum and couldn't find anything related to this (maybe I didn't look hard enough?), but where do you adjust the idle? When I start the car it stays around 500 and if i hit the gas it dies (i have to pull the choke out until it stays around 1200 for a bit)
Someone just posted a picture in another thread with the screws labeled, about a week ago. I don't know remember which thread, but you should be able to find it.
If the engine is cold, are you using the choke at all? Or just trying to drive?

Yeah, I only use the choke when the engine is cold, after I drive around a bit and let everything warm up, it seems to be fine, but it still idles so low i'd like to try and turn it up... I think I saw the picture you are talking about, it's the yellow and red screw on the blue carb right?

Hey ... Don't tear things apart yet!! Using the above picture.....you'll be lookin' at the carb form the drivers front fender....
Your gonna need an extra long ( I use an 18" #2 phillips ) screwdriver to get down to the screws.
The red one in the center of the base plate is mixture.....and I've found is VERY sensitive to adjustment. ( Although I just figured out today my shutter valve is in the toilet...aka big vacuum leak )....so turn it very carefully.
The Idle speed is the other phillips head tan screw....and it is buried. You gotta go past vacuum tubing and hoses, etc....but once you find them it's easy.
Good Luck

LOLNo seriously, what year carb is it?
Thats a SA carb, the later ones, like y 83 is different, the idle speed screw is towards the back hidden by that plate that secures the throttle cable. I wish it was like the SA carb, looks like its much easier to get to.
