Added Synthetic now I'm leaking

Just bought my 85 gsl, and read up on posts regarding suggested maintenance. Ordered enough NEO synthetic for my tranny & rear. 1 week after the change noticed 2 spots in my driveway of clean fresh stinky gear lube. Now its getting difficult to shift so I'm assuming enough of it leaked out to effect my shifting and I dont want to take a chance of blowing my rear end.

I knew that was going to be a possible side effect from going synthetic... and low & behold I got bit.

A friend of mine suggested rather than fixing all the seals I would need to just revert back to nonsynthetic and that would stop the leaks. Would anyone know if that is a viable alternative? If so would anyone recommend a really good non synthetic. Please let me know... I miss my 7.

Its not your oil, if its hard to shift the problem lies in the transmission or clutch, I would check the lower drain plug is properly tightened on both units and they have the washer in place.

It sounds like a operator error to me. You would have a lot of oil around if it had drained out, the trans holds 1.8 liters and the diff 1.2 liters.

What shape is your clutch in. Check your clutch fluid level also.

I know there was fluid in my driveway, not sure how much I lost in transit, and not sure about my job parking lot, but I have been using it as a daily driver for a couple weeks after the change. I do not recall the washers on those bolts so I will check.

Clutch was replaced about 15K ago according to the prior owner. The fluid level for the clutch is just above the min line, felt around for leaks but found none. Would just above the min line have this effect? (I’ll add more anyway)

One thing I noticed was the clutch seemed to be progressively engaging at a lower pedal height than normal (does that give any clues). Thanks in advance for your help.

leaky slave cylinder or lines? That fluid is prolly your clutch and not your trans leaking.

Read some more based upon your suggestions... and your suggestion is on point... The clutch pedal seems looser & lower than normal. Will buy new Clutch Master & Slave cylinders with new line tommorow. Advanced Auto has Raybestos, Beck Arnley, Bendix & Tru Torque... any one better than the other?

Also I read a few posts that bleeding can be tricky. I see 1 bleed valve by the slave cylinder, is it just like brakes? Close... pump... pump... and open with hose connected to bleed valve in some fresh fluid until all air bubbles are out????

This forums a life line....

Yeah, bleeding the slave is just like that. Pump pump pump, release, tighten, pump pump pump...

It it were your tranny leaking, it wouldn't change your pedal height at all, it would just be harder to shift. Don't ask me why, but I drove an FB with NO tranny fluid in it for a little while until I blew the 4th gear synchro.

I'm not sure what brands they are, but I got a Clutch master cylinder from Advance, and another cheapy slave cylinder off of Rockauto.com, both have been fine.
