the add coolant light comes on when the coolant level in the radiator drops below a certain level. wait until the engine is cool and top the coolant off.

Same problem here... more or less.
It only flashes a bit when starting the engine, let's say 2 minutes, then it goes off.
Anyway, any suggestion about what coolant to use in a 1st gen?

no specific brand, just make sure its the green coolant. dex cool and the green stuff do not mix. top the coolant off and if the coolant level sender is goot, the light will go off.

Same thing would happen to me but I would keep filling the rad and the light will still turn on and then at one point my over flow was overflowing so I empyed it and got a new radiator cap and problem was solved. I belive the cap was letting fluid out but not sucking in. Get a new cap it will help.

What lower radiator hose are you running? If you do not run a stock hose it will cause
this. At higher RPMs most replacement hoses (read: cheap) will cavitate. The stock
hose is much stiffer walled, I believe it has a metal spring of some sort in it to keep its
shape.

I do not have warning lights for coolent or collent, my car is just too primitive to use those exotic fluids.
