Add Coolant Light

Just had an Add Coolant Light and buzzer come on. I checked and both the radiator and reservoir were full. What else will set this off. BTW the engine temp remained well withnin safe and I had no steam rising from the engine compartment.

Any ideas or potential fixes?

If you have a beehive oil cooler, make sure that none of the water lines are kinked or pinched. This will also cause that buzzer/light to go off (personal experience). But most likely you have a bad sensor/wire. Good luck...

I hate wiring. The low coolant warning system is set up such that when the sensor circuit is closed, the warning light and buzzer is open and vice-versa. The sensor grounds through the coolant. Great way to add electrolysis to the cooling system, isn't it?

The radiator may look full when the engine is cold, (btw the overflow has nothing to do with the buzzer or the coolant system being full, it is there for recovery and repleneshment), but there may be a bubble in the system. Warm up the engine with the radiator cap off and the heater system on full, squeeze the upper radiator hose, gloved hand, and try to get any bubbles out.

If this problem has just shown up and there have been no changes made in the cooling system, check the sensor wire for cracks, the connection for corrosion and remove the sensor from the radiator and clean it.

If that fails to fix the problem, start tracing the sensor wire back through the harness. If the problem goes away for a while, then returns, start looking for leaks, first suspect would the heater hose under the oil filter.

Thanks

I reseated the connection and that seems to have taken care of the problem. Thanks for the advice.

Wow, I've been having that problem, too, but minus the buzzer. Just a light. But, I have just been ignoring it. Now, I know what to do to make it stop.

Mine likes to be picky whether the bell/buzzer goes off but the light always comes on with cold starts and stays on until the motor warms up and on certain grades/turns it comes on then quickly goes off. I know how to fix it, I'm just waiting for warmer weather LOL
