ACV question

Hi, I am going to remove the air pump and the ACV from my 12A since the cat on it doesn't have a split air line. (It was bolted shut and the temp sensor was cut off by the previous owner. Cats will come off later when I have some $$$ for a new exhaust system)

I read all the FAQ and posts about it but I was curious what the other line off the ACV does. Why do they pump air back to the port on the engine? I know the write-ups say to block it off but I was just curious to know what it does when it is working. The emission control and exhaust manual is pretty vague about this.

Thanks!

OK, since I'm not getting any takers on this question. So here is another...what would happen if you leave the air pump on but just remove the belt. OK, you have extra crap hanging around but at least it isn't sucking up HP for nothing.
