ACV block off plate

What are the pros/cons of blocking off the air control valve? I know a couple of people here have done it.

Will it still be fine with the converters and other emission systems?

Strange question, the reason you remove the air control value is when you are no longer using the converters, air pump.

I think if you block it off you will destroy the cats if you do not remove all of the emissions at the same time.

just my thoughts (could be wrong)

peace

when i bought my car, the air tube on the main cat was messed up, so me and my dad blocked it off, and blocked off the tube going to it. my car runs 18.1's and thats probably because of a clogged cat. i know your remove all the stuff when you go with a header and aftermarket cat. infact, my racing beat header came with the block off plates and screws to remove the air pump and block it off. visually, i dont see anything wrong with my exhaust, there is alot of heat that comes from under the car when it is just sitting and running, but im sure thast with any car. like i said, i have the stock exhaust right now, with no air tube going to the main cat, and i havent noticed anything except for a noisy heat shield.

edit: the header isnt installed. the whole system is stock

ok, thats what I was checking. I wasn't sure if you could block it off with the converters and airpump, but I'm taking them off in the near future.

Well I got your money today, so the one that will bypass the front 2 will be on its way. The middle one you just cut out, have an exhaust shop make a pipe. TELL THEM the dimensions of the pipe and what you need the ends flared too, dont tell them you are making it to remove the cat, they probally wont help you then. Then go home and weld the pipe on Remove the air pump, ACV, and the little valve at the back of the inatke manifold... Its not very loud like that with stock muffler and **** Enjoy destroying the enviroment LOL

Does anyone have a template so I can build my own block off plate?
If there is such a item, can it be scanned and posted original size?

You already have the best template made

Take the old one and trace it onto some cardboard, and when you get the shape perfect... Trace that onto some 1/4 alum. and start cutting

Thats what I did

Great Idea? It seems to be such a waist to by them. Did you make your own gasket as well?

Yelp made my own gasket out of gasket paper, available at a parts place like autozone... Also used Hylomar sealant to seal front and back of the gakset.

I always make my own gaskets, whenever feasible...

im clueless on what the big plate is blocking. i know the little one blocks the airflow to the cat, but what about the big one?

The big plate is for the ACV (air CONTROL Valve)Depending on whatever state the motor is in, it diverts the air from the air pump to the air cleaner, or the intake (actually towards the valve in the back for the cats)

so the air goes through the big plate first, then through the little hole, onto the cat?
