you can use more advance on your ignition timing because of the knock resistance - which can give you SILLY gains in certain situations

ie: top-fuel drag cars, they run off, pretty much, pure ethanol, which has a stupidly high octane rating - and the engines put out around 3000Bhp when supercharged

I agree that acetone is a very strong chemical (I use it on my rotors during rebuilds to dissolve the carbon) however, I refuse to believe that 3oz (were talking less than 1/2 cup here ) in 10 gals of gas is harmful to the engine and fuel system. If anything, I would use it to keep the internal carbon build-up down in our engines. I think that would be the best benefit overall.

Um...

Top fuel cars run Nitromethanol. The Nitro is what gives them the power. And they make upwards of 6000hp...Pure Ethanol or methanol is in the 140-160 octane range but doesn't produce as much powerl as gasoline so you need to use almost twice as much of it Just FYI.

I agree, question is does it help out with anything or is it a waste of time... Only time will tell, I'll post results. So far I've got to say it looks like I'm getting the same MPG. And The car feels just like it always did.

I know people who have been doing a 10% acetone, or ethonol to clean up emmissions on cars that wouldn't pass other wise. It causes higher than normal combustion temps there fore cleaner burn in pissedons. Now mind you these are my Bow Tie friends I have no clue what it might do to a rotary.

Anyone followed up on this?

Looks like this thread has frayed!!! Has anyone tested this theory?

I'm especially curious to find out if this improves emissions!!! I have to get my car to pass the test and am desparate!!!

I tried it and didn't notice any difference in performance or MPG increase. So I think it's BS....
