Accessory Plug (cigar lighter)

My accessory plug only works when the headlights are on, ever heard of this?? How can I fix it?

maybe somehow the wires that power the lighter and the light on it got crossed. Cause that orange light would only go on with the headlights. So maybe its plugged in wrong. Just a thought.

That is the thing the orange light also only comes on with the lights, I am confused. Then entire assembly is switched by the headlights and not the ignition.

Unless someone messed with your wiring an 83's cigar lighter should have 3 wires going to it. I forget the colors, but one is a ground (black obviously) then theres a wire powering the orange light (I think that might be orange with a white stripe, but not sure) and then there is a bigger wire going to the large pin on the back of the lighter itself. This is a constant power lead, the lighter works even with the car off. Maybe someone messed with the wires and has the light wire powering the whole thing or something odd like that. HTH
