Acceleration Problems

I've got a 83 Rx7 and when i go to hit the gas it will sputter and not have any acceleration. It seems like the timeing is off or something.. or losing compression?? also when i just go to gently accelerate the engine runs fine.. any ideas? also ive got the odd electrical problem, my left headlight when i go to flip it up, it will go up then back down again then back up and so on... should it be catching on something? -Alex

Have you got a new fuel filter in place? That's always the first (and cheapest) step.
