accelaration problem? help!!!
My 83 sucks when it comes to speed!! In 1st gear its ok, but the rest are even worse. This weird rattling noise comes out of the tranny or engine when im flooring it and the rpms pass 3500. Its so bad that i cant even pass cars on the highway. The car only goes up to 65 mph and even drops by itself to 60 with the pedal to the floor. Guys you gotta help this really sucks!!
It cant be the fuel filter because its new, or the spark plugs. My front and rear fuel bowls on the carb are at a quarter from full. I heard that they should only be at half way. One more thing is there like a filter in the carb or somewhere that may lack speed?

Sounds like your secondaries may not be opening.
Perhaps the saftey throttle return spring has flipped off the rocker. PM Carl for more info on this, as I have limited experience. (I always rip those things right off first thing!)
The float bowl sight glasses are supposed to show half-full during idle. 1/4 from top is not going to have the effect that you describe, though.
The fact that first gear is "OK" demonstrates that the mixture is on for that gear. But when you apply significant load (second & higher gears), you're coming up short of fuel in the mixture.
Check that return spring gizmo, and get back to us.

i gotta check that if my secondaries are opening, but how do you mess with the mixture. I have no clue on where that might be. Where is this return spring at?
