AC removal question.

I want to take out the air compressor and most tubing, but I don't know if I need a new belt. It looks like it's seperate from the other belts, but I just want to be sure before I go ripping stuff out.

It's in a 85 gsl with a 12a.

my first rx7 did not have a/c from the factory so i dont think you will need a new belt. it should be on its own belt that you can take off

What did you do with the hose coming from the radiator? Are the two hoses connected to the compressor pressurized? I just disconnected my belt last week but have not messed with any of the other stuff cause I was not sure what I was doing.

Well, the lines were pressurized. I wasn't sure how to go about taking them off, so I just let out the pressure REAL slow. I still have the pipe that runs to the radiator because I couldn't get it to break loose and I'm out of PB Blaster. The top hose that runs to the other side of the car has a BUNCH of clips on it to hold wiring in place.

There was only 3 bolts to remove the compressor and another to remove the mount.

Honestly, I'm sure I didn't do the lines right when I pulled them, but it worked for me.

Oh, also it gets rid of at least 10lbs. of weight.

Good luck to you, any questions just ask. I might be able to help.

Pretty sure all you need is the blower motor for the heater to work. Just checked mine and it still works, but before I did any of this I couldn't get the switches to work to change which vents were working.

Maybe someone knows why the switches won't work? The little lights don't even come on and I checked all the fuses.

Lol. It only took me about 1hr. to do it. I had to clean up and stuff before I got back on here and posted.

As for the lights for the vent switches not working.....I umm...yeah, I took out the fuse marked "A/C" not thinking it would mess with the controls.

So yeah, replaced the fuse and everything works great!!!

Thanks again for the "motivation" Yellow '79.

I know my way around a motor for the most part, but this was actually a lot easier than it looked.

What hose going to the rad? When I did mine I took off every thing, including the Radiator looking thing infront of the radiator. And I cut the lines coming from the firewall. took me about 20 min to remove all.

I'm pretty sure he was talking about the radiator looking thing. I didn't get that far. I was taking all the stuff off so there would be a little more value to it when I get rid of the stuff.

Anyways, it does look like the line runs into the radiator.

If you want to preserve the quality of the A/C components for future usage then make sure that you cap off and seal all of the components.

Alright!! DONE!!!! That was fun. Soooo much more room for air to get to the radiator now. The only downfall is that I'm bored now....need...something...to do....

I would love to remove the nest, just need the money and place to get the vaccuum lines needed to do it. As for cleaning, I think I'll leave that to when I pull the motor over the winter.

Maybe I should have done a tutorial...hmm....
