ac condenser removal

I also removed my AC system, and the condensor inside the car is fairly simple.
Although the plastic enclosure that house the condensor will have to be gutted and re-installed or get the plastic duct from a non-ac car. Some have even fabricated their own ducting piece.

They're talking about the cooling coils in the big black plastic box under the passenger side of the dash.
I took mine out of the box, sealed up the extra holes, and reinstalled it until I found the duct piece from a non-A/C '79 a couple of months later. Much better, cleaner appearance.

edit: My car is an '80, there may be differences in the FB models.

the part you want to remove is called the evaporator, as directfreak said the condensor is the radiator looking thing under the hood.
I bet that looks alot cleaner wankelguy, I'll have to search for one, i was just going to use the empty stock box, but that looks better.

lol, the non A/C duct is probably a pound or two lighter at the most. It does provide more passenger legroom, though. Getting in the position necessary to work on that stuff under the dash can sure mess with your neck, so be sure and do some stretching excercises beforehand.

it makes it a helluvalot easier if you take a hack saw blade and cut off the threaded fittings that poke thru the firewall first. Then you yank out the black hose that comes from the bottom of the box, loosen both 1-inch clamps that hold the input/output connections on, and remove the 2 10mm nuts and washers. This is the hard part tho, as the top 10mm nut and washer is not visable, but can be touched if you have small hands. Its directly on top of the black box. I used a ratchet with an extension to break it loose, then it was finger loose. Then just yank out the whole thing. I replaced it with a piece from a non AC car that weighs nothing.

The ones I have seen:
On the 1984-85 its the same control head as a S and GS models, AC button is there and everything.
On the 1981-83 they have a black button instead of the AC button blue lit one.
