AC causes sputtering at warm up
It is hot down here in the South and when I start up my '85 SE and let it warm up for about 2-3 minutes I noticed that if I turn on the AC during warm up that once warmed up when I begin to drive the engine seems to sputter as if it is not getting all the power it needs to accelerate smoothly. I am talking about irregular acceleration beyond the reduced power that the AC robs. But when I warm up the engine and do not turn on the AC for 4-5 minutes I have no sputtering. Someone mentioned that there is an AC idle kickup that increases the idle when the AC is on. Could this be my problem? I got rid of the car cutting off when stopped when the AC was running by increasing the idle by about 100 RPM (to +-850). The car has 160,000 miles and runs well. Thanks for the help.
