Question 91 engine and tranny swap into '85 GS

Can I swap a 91 engine/tranny into an '85 GS?

I'd like to make my car power steering, is this possible?

you could swap them into a lawnmower, and then make THAT power steering if you wanted to ... anything is possible.

seriously though, welcome to the forum. i'll tell you before anyone else does. try running searches for questions like that. many things are discussed in length.

about the engine/tranny - YES and you can find that info here: https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showth...threadid=65800

about the power steering, it would be a pain to do that conversion, and i can't resist asking why, but like i said, anything is possible.

ok a n/a motor, those are good motors. but if your going to swap a carb on ther your going to save yourself alot of work, instead of keeping the efi. also you said converting over to stock carb? the one off a 12a? it wont work as good and you'd have to make a ghetto manifold for it to fit on a 13b. get a weber or something 48mm or larger.

The engine goes in easy enough, no worries there. If you go carb, even easier.

As for the PS, why do you want it? It is quite simple to turn the wheels on a first gen at a stop on pavement with manual steering. BUT, if you insist, I imagine it would simply require fabbing a bracket to hold the first gen power steering pump and then doing some fancy belt work. Nothing too hard, but likely not worth it.

I'd rather have manual steering myself, if only because replacement boxes are easier to come by. The sector shaft rides on the cast iron of the housing itself, so when the shaft starts wobbling around (causing the infamous loose steering) the only solution is to replace the box. And Mazda no longer stocks the '84-85 PS boxes. That's kinda OK actually as they were $1400 or so when they were available. But the P/S does have a faster ratio. To do the swap you IDEALLY need the steering column, box, pump, (probably will bolt to any rotary block), the lines, the bypass valve, and the P/S module that actuales the bypass valve. Or you could just put in the box and column and go unassisted.

Thanks guys for all you input. I have personnally driven both models(with and without PS) and the truth is when you have a tire upgrade steering becames a workout particullarly a lower speeds. Sounds like I'll stick with the car the way it is.
