88 master cylinder in my 84 (just read it to understand)

The master cylinder in my 84 needs replacing. I have had terrible luck finding one at a yard (they all have drums out back) so I'm considering other options. Lockwood Performance sells an "excellent" condition one for $65, which I think is a decent option (although my local pull-a-part says $8 without a core, if only they had one). Anyway, I glanced at my 88 master cylinder today and noticed it looks almost exactly the same (this is an 88 SE, so it has the crappy single piston brakes, similar to my 84). Anyone know if I'd be able to use this one? All the inlets and outlets look to be in the same spot and everything, so why not? TIA

it all depends on the bore diameter. try to find out if they have the same rebuild kit part number. good luck and tell us what you find out.

edit.
according to carparts.com the 84 with disc brake the 84 SE and the 88 are the same rebuild kit number.

I say bolt it up and tell us if it works, it should.

FWIW the racers use drum brake masters on disc cars... Just bolt it up, bleed it, and go somewhere where you can nail the brakes hard to see if you have premature front lockup.

Sweet ***. That makes me pretty happy. Thanks guys.

I'm driving the second gen right now, so I can't really swap them today. But I will hopefully be getting another second gen on Wednesday so we'll see. Either way, I'll let you know what I find.

Thanks again, as always.

There's a check valve in the drum brake master, it is otherwise the same as the disc one, just remove the valve and the spring behind it.
