85GSL-SE wierd sounds during acceleration
Hello again
I'm new to the 85 GSL-SE with EFI. I've owned carb'd rex's in the past.
Problem is this --
I am hearing a strange sound when I accelerate and is becoming difficult to pinpoint. It's not too loud but loud enough for me to be concerned. If I can hear it, I'm concerened
It's only when the car is accelerating and in motion, not while accelerating and stationary. It's sounds like something in rotation and increases as the speed increases, now I know that RX-7's are famous for rotary motors, but if it was the motor would I not hear it while accelerating and stationary?
I'm thinking that this could be the fuel injection I'm hearing. If it is the EFI, is this sound normal, will I need to replace the EFI, is there a reccomended Fuel Injection cleaner to use if any?
Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance and for all the help I've recieved from this forum in the past.

Anytime baby!
If it sounds like a helicopter it could be a wheel bearing. That is what mine sounds like...
...does it increase in proportion to the engine speed or car speed?
If car then sounds like a bearing problem....engine then transmission or engine, though tranny could be both.
Right on

Yes that's it. It sounds something like a helicopter and only occurs while the car increases in acceleration. I don't hear this helicopter type noise while simply rev'ing the engine. Bearings eh? Cool. I'll have mechanic look into it. I'm glad that it might be something other than my EFI, that would suck.
Damn I love my car.
Thanks!

The problem was in fact the Wheel bearings. I needed to replace both rear wheel bearings. Luckily the axle shafts weren't damaged in any way and could be saved. My ride has never run better. Thank you for the advice!! It was greatly appreciated! I now have the GSL-SE of my dreams.

Anytime baby!
Daaaang! I'm good...I've solved two forum member's problems in one week. Beauty of the forum.
My rear wheel bearings have been making that helicoptor noise for a long time now...You got me a bit worried now about my axle, I would not like to replace that also. I called my mechanic to order some rear axle bearings for me today.
Right on!
