85 SE, poor perormance.. please help.

Hello everyone, I have an 85 SE w/87K miles for my autocross car. The car was running fine until two events ago. On the drive home, we noticed that acceleration sucked, and when approx 5800 RPM is reached.. it just tops out.... will not rev past that.

Needless to say, we lost our asses last event cause she was running like shiat.

Since then, I have replaced the cap & rotor, plugs, wires, fuel filter.. and changed the oil. Fuel pressure seems low as per the manual... it sits at about 33.4 PSi and does not rise with acceleration. The book says that optimal fuel pressure is 48.3- 78.1 PSI.

I am not sure if I have clogged cats, or a bad fuel pump, or fuel regulator..or what.. any help is appreciated. As for now, everything is stock, cept for what I replaced, a K&N, and the starter.

Blake

well since the fuel pump on the SE's don't go bad most of the time, i think the first thing you should check is your cat. It is not hard to check it. Just take it out and see if it is clogged. 80% that's your problem

I had a sudden loss of power similar to yours caused by one of my igniters going bad. Make sure you getting spark to both leading and trailing plugs.
