Just wondering if a muffler (just the canister) from an SE will bolt onto another '85 12a car with no issues? Did some searches that came up empty so I thought I'd ask the group. Thanks for the help.

 

Based on the Parts Fiche, it looks like it may be the same muffler/flange location across all trims for 1984-85 cars. However, there are at least 3 different exhaust configurations across the years I'm aware of with wildly different muffler flange types and locations(1979-80, 1981-83, 1984-85), so a muffler from 1984-85 will not bolt up with a 1979-83 car.

 

The SE muffler will bolt to a 12A extension pipe and the 12A muffler will bolt to an SE extension pipe. They have the same flanges and mounting points, though the mufflers are different in design but retain very similar dimensions.
