85 RX-7 GSL SE to 88 RX-7 13b N/A

Fist off the back story,

I bought a 85 GSL SE a long while ago. When I bought the car the previous owner had swapped the 13b for a carbonated 12a.

Yesterday i purchased a 88 S4 with a fuel injected 13b. Today i got it running, and it runs quite well. Its in a base model 88 RX-7 with an auto tranny.

I don't know if the 85 GSL SE has a 13b tranny or a 12a tranny but its a 5 speed. (my guess is that it has the original 13b tranny in it.

I'm trying to figure out what other parts I will need to do the engine swap and put the 13b from the 88 into the 85.

All the information i can find is for the turbo II swap. I understand that these engines are very similar.

I also know that there is a big difference between the 87-88 turbo 13b and the 89+ turbo 13b's in the second generation when it comes to swapping them into a first gen.

Some other notes:
- The wiring harness from the 85's original 13b is still intact
- The motor mounts holding in the 12a look very wrong, they sorta bend forward.

Any information you may have is appreciated.

Swap is the same as the TII except no Turbo.

Since you still have the original SE harness in place you have some options here.

1. You can install the FC engine and find all of the SE injection stuff including the AFM, upper and lower intakes, etc and install them on the S4 engine. You would then run the stock SE ECU.

2. Take the harness and ECU out of the 88 and run the 88 injection system.

Your transmission in your SE will bolt up (this has been covered extensively) to the 88 engine. You will just need to install a pilot bearing and seal in the 88.

You will either need to get a Flywheel for the 88 or use the rear counterweight that you have from the Automatic and buy a lightened steel flywheel.

its mostly me and Steve on there , if you dont have to worry smog it will be even easyer.

when you make your harness that goes to the driver side you wanna use wire sheilding with the best shielding that you can find, for the CAS, i used 100% that i was able to find near by it cost about $10 but its worth it, if you have any questions let me know. you are also going to need the front cover from 1 st gen , 1st gen 13B oil pan, your going to need either an 88 manuel flywheel or a light weight fly, you alraedy have the counter weight you just need the the f/w and a clutch .
nothinf against you but i dont feel like typing much more right now so if you have anymore questions let me know.
