if it needs a rebuild there aint no point just changing the apex's, might as well do the corner and side seals all at the same time..
if ur gona do a rebuild do it right the first time, which i sadly learn a little while back

Whats the deal with the poll? The options don't make sense with the topic. You don't have to select the "poll" option when you create a thread, its optional.
Did you know the engine had low compression when you bought it? I don't know how much you know about rotary engines but replacing your apex seals may not fix the problem. A worn or broken side seal could cause a loss in compression. Depending on the mileage, you may have to have the housings lapped due to wear on the machined surfaces. Seals break when the engine is running, so if you have a broken seal, the fragments usually spin around in the engine and damage the machined surfaces and/or the rotor. (The seals are steel, so steel fragments in an engine rotating at a few thousand RPMs isn't good.)
How much are you looking to put into and get out of this car? Is this going to be a project car with many hi-pro upgrades or is this going to be a stock(or somewhat modded), everyday driver?

The rebuild is a simple process; a lot easier than a piston engine. If have a Haynes manual, and some basic hand tools, then you can pretty much get it. You will need a big breaker bar for the flywheel nut, and the bolt holding the main crank pulley to the crank shaft. its sometimes easier if you undo those 2 before you remove the engine.

Most people will recomend the Hanyes manual for 79-85 RX-7s. You won't know for sure how what the culprit of low compression is until you take the motor apart, so dig in! If you have a digital camera, that will help us help you if you take pics of things you have questions about. Plus we always like to see how peoples prjects are progressing. Welcome to the forum and keep the questions rolling.

If a local place that sells Haynes manuals doesn't have the one you need, they can special order it. I was able to get all mine from a place like Kraegen, Pep Boys, Napa, or other major auto parts stores.
And don't get Chiltons, get Haynes.
