85 GSL-SE rear diff. probs.
I own an 85 GSL-SE,I blew the motor about 2 years ago after only owning it for a month..Before I blew the motor,I remember the tires easily spun,as in only one tire really spun and it was night and day compared to the diff. on my 83 gsl I had owned prior.
Now,2 years later,my car has been at a shop getting the 13b turbo engine, trans, and haltech among other things..I am just waiting for the driveshaft to come back and its done..Now my question is,I'm probably going to try to fix this myself and I'm just looking for some advice on what to do here..If its a bad diff I'd prefer to be able to do some sort of upgrade while I'm at it,either gearing or better lsd,and if I could swap it in and out as one peice that would be even better..Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appriciated..

wow i didn't know that!!
so the best solution for him would be to swap out his unit with a GSL unit!
Tightening up a 1st gen diff isn't terribly difficult, even GSL-SE!@@!!
http://www.mazdamotorsports.com sells oversize diff clutch friction discs that can stiffen up your LSD as tight as you want.
While the diff is apart I'd reccomend new pinion, side and axel bearings and a pinion crush tube for reliability and long life. 4.444 gears are great for the street, really let the motor rev up fast and available @
http://www.mazdamotorsports.com also.
Of course you must auto-x twice a year to become a member, but if you don't and speed is of the essence and you don't mind paying full retail price, contact http://www.sevensonly.com and they can set you up @ full retail price.
FWI a stock 1st gen LSD breaks loose @ 90psi torque and the super duper race only stiff LSD on my car breaks loose @ over 175psi ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !
