85 GSL-SE non-AFM Ignition cut, then dead starter

Car has been starting/running great since new coils and battery were installed 2 months ago. car ran fine 5 days ago.

2 days ago the car started fine and the ignition cut out 3 times in a row. Didn't get the normal 3k rev. Tried revving throttle higher - no effect.

Noticed the ignition cut instantly as I released the key from the start to Ignition position.

Jumpered the fuel pump on using connector B-25 near the AFM "Short Connector of Fuel Pump", FSM 50-B2,p16. Already had this jumper handy from a previous AFM issue
This Ig cut is similar, fuel pump is definitely running. engine starts and ignition is cut. engine revs down.

Tried revving higher and left key in start position ~1 second longer, thought I heard a relay click over the noise. released key to Ig. car remained running.
Drove hard 15 minutes to recharge battery.

Parked and tried a restart - now no start, just a single loud click. <sigh>
Main relays click, battery voltage is fine, re-cleaned terminals&cables (tried jump starting as well), headlights and everything else I've checked seems to work fine.
-----
HISTORY
2 month old coils and battery.
Car is basically stock. aftermarket antenna at some point.
New dizzy, plug cables and plugs last fall. Only summer driven in these cold northern wastes.
Cleaned body grounds and starter connections 2 years ago and covered in grease.
Starts have been great since the new battery and coils. Engine has been running strong.
-----
CHECKS
Battery is fully charged, re-cleaned terminals and cables.
pulled passenger carpet, inspected ECU, Circuit open relay, ...,checked seat on all connectors, no corrosion.
checked/seated all under dash fuses (did not multimeter them)
cleaned and reseated fusible links
checked/seated AFM connector
pulled and checked waterpump thermo sensor- good.
-----
NEXT
Need to pull/check/clean/change starter wire/connections/solenoid next. May have smoked the starter but it seems coincidental and was working great.

Need to build gsl-addict's ECU error code checker and review FSM/archives

Wondering if an intermittent ecu, ignition switch, bad ground is causing the Ig cut?

Anyone seen similar ignition cut symptoms?

by ignition cut you mean that it just died out rite? yes but trying to keep it running with te starter engaged you can burn it out if its original member that it is almost 30 years old. as for the intermitent cuts i would check your igniters if you checked everything else! ive seen those come and go with similar syptoms youve been experiencing. theres a thread somewhere here in order to check them.( i forget what wire goes on wat pin) but you gotta make a little jumper harness with spade connectors(u dont have to but its just easier this way) connect a 12v source ie. your car battery, and test them with a non self powered test light. good luck let us know wat you find!

Yep, engine died instantly and the revs spun down. Yep, may have killed the (old but newer than 30 year old) starter.
A trailing igniter swap is high on the check list.
Thanks for confirming the behaviour.
