85 gsl carb ?

Hey guys,

After trying to crank the car should there be fuel sitting in the 2 larger barrels and none in the 2 smaller?

Overnight the fuel in the 2 larger settled down and filled the glass window up almost to the top. Is this normal?

Any help is appreciated.

Scott

Sounds like this carb is flooding. The fuel should reach the middle of both front and rear windows only.

The needle valves could be sticking open or just leaking.

No thats not normal, you should never see fuel accumulate in the throttle barrels.

The fuel in the secondaries (larger bores) didn't settle down and fill the float bowls (what the windows allow you to look into). The fuel in the secondaries sloooowly dripped into the intake manifold. The only way for fuel to get into the float bowls is from the fuel inlet at the top of the carb, driver's side. If the bowls are full, you've either got mal-adjusted floats or a leaky needle valve or maybe floats that are filling with fuel.

Use a little mirror (steal a compact from wife/gf, works great). Is the front level the same as the back level? Should be around half at idle.

There's a lot of threads around here about fscked-up carbs. Check them out, you'll find a lot of good troubleshooting tips.

If you don't want to mess with it, give Sterling a call.

well by the next morning the fuel in the secondaries had settled down and almost filled the window to the top.

But, all the carb problems are on hold pending starter and electrical problems.

Good luck with the starter/electrical probs. I just want to make sure you understand that the fuel standing in the secondaries can only go two places: the atmosphere and the intake mani. It will not go back into the float bowl.
