85 GS - Tender Blue Clearcoat Issues

Picked up this 85 GS recently, thinking I would part it out. Too nice for that, so I want to spruce it up. I think the clearcoat can be fixed...

Original Tender Blue (V3) paint is in great shape on the sides

Top has clearcoat damage - looks repairable

Front has clearcoat damage - looks repairable

Picked up this from ExpressPaint - I will let you know how it turns out!

Includes OEM (Mazda V3 - Tender Blue Metallic) basecoat with clearcoat, accelerant and sprayer. Also picked up dual paint pen with OEM paint on one end and clearcoat on the other. Brilliant!

Please do let us know! Kit looks comprehensive. Of course, its all in the prep and application
There also a TON of rattle-can How-2 vids on YouTube, so that might give you some input too.
You are right - waaaay too nice an FB to part.
'Luck!

I will be sure to let you know! You are right - it is tempting to try to go too fast and make a mess so it is all about the prep and taking your time. It is those darn videos that gave me the confidence to try this. I recently used a lower quality kit on my F-150 and it turned out pretty nice. The videos definitely helped.

Interested to see how it comes out. My bonnet and tops of my front guards are pretty bad. Have thought about wet sanding it all back haha

I will be sure to post pics. I wanted to "practice" on my old pickup first before I tried it on the rx-7 it actually turned out pretty good! As someone said above... it is all in the prep work.

Here are the before/after pics using cheaper products (OEM paint from Autozone) and 2K clearcoat. Not perfect, but adequate for a 2004 F-150. Big lesson learned: I will need more paint and clearcoat for the RX-7. One can doesn't go that far. Will probably need 4x what I have. So, considering maybe a low end paint sprayer in lieu of the spray cans. Thoughts please!

I have used it on two different motorcycle paint jobs, it looks great at first, but it does not last, I would not use it again. Just my two cents. Lasted a couple of years then started peeling.

You know... that is the one thing that no online commented on - just how good it looks immediately aftterwards. Thanks for the advice! How about the kit in the pic above... any experience with that? Any suggestion for an affordable paint rig that may be better??

As far as the old pickup... even if I have to do it again at some point, still worth doing. My hood and cab top were awful.
