85 GLS-SE Electrical Con't

Well i've torn some of the interior of my car apart following wires and i got to the wires going through the floor to the fuel pump and i put the test light in. When i turn the key to on and touch the brake so the brake lights go on, or any other electrical for that matter, the relay clicks and the pump goes on, and flutters, when I start the car the light goes on untill I press the brake so the lights go on, or any other electrical to a certain draw point and the power stops going to the relay and the fuel pump. Lots of people are telling me its a ground. Are they right? Anybody had a prob like this?

wha??

wow tricky to read.

Could be a ground issue, i suppose, it could also be a electrical supply problem. You are saying everything works (fuel pump) until you load the system with something like brake lights?

Are you able to run any lights, heater or stuff like that and have the car run?

Use a voltmeter test the output of battery car off(potential diff, should be 12V), check it while the car is on, it should be 14 i think.

Are your battery terminals corroded? clean them off

PS its a gSL-se in case it wasnt just a typo lol

i had a similar problem sometimes the terminals get corroded, but what happend to me on was the my negative was corroded where it grounded to the car so id check terminals and ground wires, check alternator as well

Probably corroded battery connections.

Whenever I have had weird electrical problems involving more than one gadget at a time it has been because of a bad ground connection, usually the battery to ground connection.

Check for corrosion at the battery connections. get a $4 ID/OD wire brush gizmo at the autostore.

Its not the battery, I bought it brand new, ran it in my 87 s-blazer for a year and now it goes from the car, to the blazer, to a 69 longhorn, to a home made chopper. Its not that, and its not the connections on the batterys, I think i would have ruled that out. EVERYTHING is fine until I load the system, every mechanic around here is thinking its a ground

Well sorry to say this guys but you were all wrong, nothing was wrong with the battery it was a bad ground from the negative of the battery to the body, put a cable from it to the body and everything chimed alive thanks for your suggestions anyways

No, shorty, YOU were wrong. Several of us recommended checking for corrosion and a bad ground. But you ignored us because you had a fixed idea in your head about batteries and mysteries.

Don't be so arrogant.

O jeeze lighten up

Cmon guys you take things way to serious. Because I solved my problem a different way than what you guys were telling me doesnt mean i'm arrogant, and it wasnt corroded cables and all the grounds in the engine bay were intact, and connecting properly Hence the reason I didnt think it was a ground but something else, It is more likely a ground in the cab, under the dash were some rust has gotten. Furthermore and arrogant person doesnt thank everyone for their suggestions and imput into the conversation

So if it makes any differents, I'm sorry, not all of you were wrong, the point is the car is working, and all is good, thats more what I was trying to put across
