85 Auto Trans Overdrive Not Working

Ive tried searching for any info on troubleshooting the overdrive for a 85gs and haven't had any luck. The car will not go into overdrive, everything else works fine. Any info would help. Thank you.

I believe that the auto trans does have a vacuum line that runs to the rat's nest in the FB, have you checked that line out yet?

Trannies slip after many years of use and tend to start out slipping between gears - has any of this gone on yet?

There is always the possibility of rebuilding the transmission but I don't think you'd find a set for rebuilding the whole trans. I've rebuild a transmission due to losing reverse and have seen how nasty the clutch discs and friction plates can get. That was on a 92, I cant imagine what an 80's trans looks like.

WARNING - There will be flaming of telling you to just swap in a manual, I expected there to already be a post about it

lol thanks. The rats nest was taken out by the old owner =( . Is there any way i can bypass the relay or somthing and feed power or ground straight to the OD Cancel Solenoid??.... I see two wires coming out of the solenoid so im wondering if I could just eliminate the OD switch in the console and just make it keep the overdrive on always by dealing with just the solenoid bolted to the trans....?

if it comes down to you needing a good auto trans for your 85, i have a nice auto trans from an 85 GSL that is taking up space that i would like to see go to a good home at a very fair price.
