Mine has that too. I beleive is the tranny. Try changing the tranny fluid and see if it goes away.

Throw-Out Bearing would be my guess. Try depressing the clutch pedal while idling. If the sound goes away while the pedal is down, my guess would be your TO bearing needs to be replaced.

If it's the throw out bearing it'll make noise all the time....

Sounds like a rear end bearing.... actually the pinion bearing in the pumpkin of the rear end. basically is where the driveshaft bolts up to the rear end. there is a bearing on the other side of the caseing

My '85 SE is making the same sound. However, I also need to rebuild the tranny.

sigh?

Good to hear about the Turbo 2 bearing, I'll look into that.

T/O bearing will only make noise when clutch pedal is on the floor. That's when it is pressed against the splines of your clutch pressure plate.

It sounds like a tranny bearing to me. Try switching to a high quality synthetic oil. It should quiet it down a little. Mine makes a little noise too. Especially when it's cold out. Any metal in the tranny oil?

Here's what mazdatrix says on the subject:
