MI 84 Se brake lights not working

like the title states, i have an 84 gsl-se, the rear brake lights dont work, i did the obvious and replaced bulbs and check fuses, well the fuses under the dash because thats the only panel i know of. theres no lights on in back until i turn the head lights on then the rear lights will light up but wont come on when i hit the pedal. anything that comes to your mind right away? thanks

first thing that comes to mind is the ground on the rear by the hatch release. its a common overlooked troubleshooting point.

Fuse is 15 amp. Last one (closest to the front of the car) on left side of fuse box. The horn is also connected to this fuse.

Stop light switch is under dash above brake pedal. GW wire supplies power. White wire should have power when pedal is pressed.

Stop light checker is also under dash near the pedal. White wire supplies power when pedal is pressed. Green sends power to brake lights.
