'84 Rear end

Hey guys,

I just picked up an Rx7 for $300...the body is straight, no rust (That i have found anyways), decent interior and a solid running engine. Problem is the rear is shot, the car won't even move. I am pretty sure both the pinion and ring gear are gone but won't know until i pull it apart tomorrow.
I have done a lot of searching on here and found some really good info but not exactly what i am looking for. Is there any Mazda truck or the like that i can steal some gears from just to make this car driveable? The reason i ask is because i bought this car with plans on doing a Ls1 swap but want to drive the car for a couple weeks to make sure i am going to like it when it's all done.
So, i don't care if the gearing changes or if they are weaker, i just want something to get the car going.
I will put pics up tomorrow.

Thanks for any input.

-Jarrod

Yes..why? What's wrong with that?
I know the steering will have to be swapped/changed to work but i have a 'stang rack i think i can use for that.

No one here likes non rotary engine swaps.

you should be able to find an open Diff for a replacemet for about $50 check the for sale section. YOU will need an 84 or 85, the earlier ones have smaller axles.

Non of the Truck diffs will work.

youll just have to change the rear end again. Getting a rear for a rotary will not hold up to a LS1.

Yea i know that....if i decide to go forward with this project, i will put an 8.8 in... i just want something cheap to allow me to drive the car as is to get some kind of idea what it will be like when it's finished.

Sorry man. Yeah, we like the rotaries and always hate to see someone new show up already forsaking the best part of an RX7. Horsepower is nice though...

the rear will stand up to the LS1 as long as you dont punish it.

Kentetsu: I hear ya on that but the thought of having a reliable/driveable high 10 second, all motor Rx7 is very enticing. My turbo ss is nice but i am on borrowed time everytime i abuse it.

Hades12: Thanks but I might as well swap the rear out once i do the Ls1 swap...the drag strip is less than 2 miles from me
