84 gslse not started
I think that the thread before me has the same problem as me! I just got this car month ago. Its an 84 gsl se that an old lady had. It only has 46,000 miles on it. Its been sitting in a garage for 16 years. It ran for her when she put it away. I went through the car before trying to start it. I discovered a ton of varish in the tank. I cleaned it all up. I also went ahead replaced all of the lines, filter and pump. I also changed the rest of the fluids. So, i thought i'd been in the clear? I can crank on it all day in 20 second brusts and i get nothing. I pulled the plugs appeared to dry? I sprayed a little amount of starting fluid in the intake and i got it to idle for 10 seconds. So i figured its not gettin gas. The pump has power when starting, and all the lines are clear. SO thats where i am. Im not sure whats up. Its my first time with a rx-7. Someone told me that my motor also maybe carbon locked. What the hell is that and how do you fix that? Thanks.
carbon locked, no. if it were, it would not crank or it would be very flooded due to loss of compression through stuck apex seals. you should look into the fuel rail being a suspect and or clogged injectors. you also want to make sure your fuel pump is working and that on your trailing coil the blue wire isnt disconnected. if thats disconnected, and you depress the throttle while you're cranking, it will cut the fuel.
Hey thats me! 85 gsl se that wont start. If your car's cranking its not carbon locked. What the hell is wrong with these cars that sit!!! Gonna pull all lines and replace filter this weekend. If you read my thread you noticed i mentioned that i put lacquer thinner in the tank and then drainded it with the drain plug. I think thats were i messed up, should have pulled the tank and cleaned the right way. Thing is, after cleaning the tank, replacing the fuel pump and filter it started and ran for a good 30 seconds, even let me rev her to 3000-3500 rpm. Then i think the filter just plugged up. If you get it running let me know what you did and i will do likewise.
P.S. you have the fuel injected 13b right?
