Unhappy 84 GSl-Se tranny troubles

Hey, Im not a huge part of this site. But i really need some help with a problem iv got. I just bought an 84 GSl-SE and it was perfectly fine when i bought it. But recently when im sitting at a stop sign or a red light and i put it into 1st with the clutch in, it will start to sputter, but not die. It doesnt happen all the time, but is starting to happen more and more offten so im getting worried. Also when I slow down and am in second with the clutch in it will sometimes do the same thing. I have no clue what it could be. I thought I would come to here for some help. So if anyone at all could give me an idea. that would be awesome! Thank you everyone!

Does it come with some extra bearing noise when you push in the clutch pedal? Sounds like a binding pilot bearing or throwout bearing. Both allow the pressure plate and flywheel to free wheel when you have the clutch released but the tranny in gear. When the tranny is in gear the input shaft is turning at driveline speed, slow or stop in this case, while the engine wants to idle. I'll bet all your shifts are hard at any speed, with occasional gear clash like the syncros are out.

If no noise but the same symptoms then perhaps your clutch isn't being fully released, try bleeding the hydraulic clutch system to remove trapped air pockets. It uses brake fluid and can be done from under the hood.

Ok...now im really getting confused. I checked out the hydrolic clutch and its fine, its working fine, depressing the clutch from what i could see without ripping things apart. I let teh car warm up for an irreguarly long amount of time this morning, and it seems perfectly fine now...if it is the bearings could they be effected by it warming up for a longer period of time? I sat in there while it was warming and put it into first and the revs droped and sputtered when it was first started...but was fine after a half an hour or so when i just let it run.

it could be your TPS (throttle position sensor), my cars idle will bounce up and down with the tps hooked up while the car is in gear, when the car is not in gear with the tps it will idle fine.

Without the tps hooked up it idles fine both in and out of gear.

Yeah thats not a trans problem. Have you recently changed your fuel filter. Also what kind of condition are your plugs and air filter in? Could be a vaccuum leak. Was the car sitting all winter? could be crappy gas.
