84 gsl-se cheap should i get it

looking throught he uncle henrys' (a swap sell and trade magazine up here) i found an 84 gsl-se for 400. the body is pretty mint underneath is good, it started right up but smoked on start up for a while. It is suspected that it has bad oil conntrol seals but it seemed to run pretty well, started nice and idled i get to go drive it today, it was parked in a snow back pretty well so i didn't get to yesterday. The car comes with a full engine seal kit, (soft) but has no seats. that's not a big deal i have access to an 82 parts car. I would be using this car as my senior project for highschool, pulling the enigne, rebuilding, mild streetport, bodywork and paint. i owuld also probably swap over to s4 intake mani's and tb if possible. maybe even s5. anyhow some info would be great. i currenctly own a few FC's and just love the FB style. thanks

sounds like a good deal, i'd definitely get it, especially if you plan on rebuilding the engine anyway. I'd just make sure the title is clean and that the rear fenderwells aren't rusting through.

title doesn't matter to me. in maine if a car is 15years old or older no title is needed. .
but yea i think i will definetly pick it up. the body has very minimal surface rust.

If you swap over to the s4 inakes and tb go ahead and just rebuild a s4 motor to use also. Sell the GSL-SE 6 port motor.
I have a s4 block, mild sp, s4 UIM, s4 LIM, s4 TB, with a lightweight rb flywheel (s4 counterweight) and the streetport exhaust. Running two 710cc injectors with the s4 TB mod.
Now to switch over to the crank angle and get rid of the dist.
With the power I am making I would have to say she is close to 180-190 rwhp.

if you have never attempted rebuilding a rotary, i would suggest the atkins video. you may be in over your head in cost. trust me, to lap the housings alone could run you $200. you say the seal kit comes with the car? well, make sure you invest in a complete gasket set as well. not a bad idea to replace all filters and a good radiator cleaning and water pump and thermostat job are in order, as well as oil cooler flush and new lines. if you are serious about this car, do it right the first time. replace the clutch, pressure plate and throw our bearing and fill the trans with a synthetic fluid. check the diff out as well. they are known to go out on the SE. other than that, check the wheel well inners, front and rear as mentioned above and check the resistance on the coils. but you know what, for $400 with a good body and running, i wouldnt pass it up!
