84 GS Gas Tank - 13b swap

i've heard that if i run below half a tank with the 12a tank in my car with a GSL-SE pump, and SE 13b that it could run dry -- due to having different pickups. is this true?

if so, can i just swap the pickups from a GSL-SE or do i need to swap the entire tank?

according to my search results this doesnt seem true, but it didnt say much about the actual pickups in the tank.

https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...t=12a+gas+tank

that thread has some info showing that 84/85 tanks are the same for the 12 and 13b, and older years are different. but not any info on the pickups themselves...

anyways, i should have my GS "SE" 13b swap running tommorow after i pickup some fuel lines, so any input would be much appreciated!

My understanding is that there are baffles in the -SE tank to prevent overmuch fuel slosh.

no no, what im more worried about is the pickups inside the tank and if they are different causing me to starve the fuel pump when my tank is half empty. which in turn would burn out the pump....

Check out this thread I posted recently. The anti slosh baffle is less than 3" deep, but you could experience fuel starvation with low fuel, on a non-SE tank, because the fuel return tube refills the 'cup'.

You are better off using an SE tank, or putting the cup in the non-SE tank. Be sure to use the SE pickup tube assembly.

The fuel and return lines on the SE are larger also. The SE return is the same size as the 12a supply line.
