Victory!
I finally got that dirty low-down so-and-so water pump out.
One photo is of the water pump port, and the other is of the thermostat. The thermo came with a rubber gasket, but the thermo and housing wouldn't fit/seal with the gasket on so I left it off.
When I sealed everything up the 1st time I did not notice any seepage or leakage passed the thermo.
However, I didn't clean the port surface very well and didn't apply any sealant to the housing face at the time. I going to correct that now.
I noticed a thinking of the coolant around the thermo (you can see where I ran my finger through it at the bottom of the thermo. Is this normal?

Got it all back together.
Got it on blocks, so no road trip.
Filled up the radiator.
Started fine.
I pulled the choke and let it go until warm (without the radiator cap).
Choke kicked out; I let it run for a good 10 min. (with radiator cap on)
Temperature gauge never got to half (see pic).
I'm not sure what normal idle temperature should be. Should the gauge even be that high at 10 min. of idle?
Shut it down. No explosion of coolant or
anything unusual.
It would run a good 15 or 20 min. before having overheating problems originally. I won't know if the problem is fixed until I get it on the road.
Doing brakes, rotors, some bushings next week first.

Why are you creating multiple threds with the same title? In the future, when someone reads your first thread - they might like to know how you fixed it.
Here it is; maybe a mod can join them - https://www.rx7club.com/1st-generati...ating-1146573/
